Device Troubleshooting: Type 84

Updated on

This document provides information on how to reset your Type 84 first generation and second generation sensor.

Follow the instructions below to reset the Type 84 1st and 2nd Generation sensors

  1. Remove the threaded magnet on the sensor.(You can also use bring a magnet with you).
  2. Run the magnet along the flat side with the ATS logo or the opposite side with the X/Y/Z legend.
  3. You may see the clear section of the lid flash blue after a few seconds.
    1. This sensor has a magnetic reed switch internal to it.
    2. When a magnet is run across these areas, the switch trips and performs the same button push reset.
    3. The reset cuts power and boots up the MCU on the board, where it enters its normal sequences.

First generation example below:

2nd Generation example below:

FIRST GENERATION ONLY: If the gateway has not adopted the sensor, check the antenna for damage by following these steps:

  1. Open the lid by rotating the plastic top counterclockwise.
  2. When the lid releases, there will be a cable attaching the lid to the sensor unit inside.
    1. After visually inspecting the cable take a picture and send it to [email protected].
  3. Reset the sensor by pressing the button. It is labeled with an R on the PBC.
  4. Before re-attaching the lid, pre-rotate the lid counterclockwise to reduce the possibility of that cable getting torqued when you  re-tighten.
    1. While the lid is NOT on the threads turn the unit or lid a couple of times to twist the cable.
    2. Place lid on threads and tighten.

Make sure the antenna cable is not caught in the lid of the unit.
