Removing and Replacing MHM Sensors

Updated on

This document provides an outline of how to remove and replace an MHM sensor. Ensure to match each sensor provided to the particular sensor it replaces. Please only replace a sensor with its designated replacement, as indicated on the paper inside the shipment. Depending on the sensor being replaced, it may contain one or two sensor tethers and heads.

Removal and Replacement

Follow the steps below to remove and replace a sensor. Please only replace a sensor with its designated replacement, as indicated on the paper inside the shipment.

  • Note the exact placement of the sensor box and sensor head(s) on the machine being monitored.
  • If the sensor has two tethers, note which tether is attached to sensor 1 and which is attached to sensor 2 (these are listed on the top of the sensor box).
  • Each sensor head has a black or blue mark on one of its sides. Note which direction the mark on the sensor head(s) is facing when it’s attached to the machine being monitored. (See photo below.)
  • Remove sensor box along with the tether(s) from the machine being monitored.
  • Attach the provided antenna to the port on the side of the new sensor. (If external)
    • For more information on how to attach the antenna, click here.
  • Ensure that the antenna is NOT OBSTRUCTED pointing up towards the ceiling.
    • Place the sensor box high enough on the wall to avoid multiple walls/ metal blocking the antenna.
  • While at the asset the transmitter will be mounted on, before mounting it, reset the sensor.  This will allow it to "learn" the mesh network, it's place in the network and the best path(s) to a gateway or repeater.  (Sensor Reset Instructions)
  • Place the new sensor head(s) in the exact spot where the old sensor head(s) were placed.
  • Make sure the mark(s) on the sensor head(s) are facing the same direction as the mark(s) on the old sensor head(s).
  • Take the following photos:
    1. Take a picture of the placement of the sensor box on the machine. Please make sure the sensor label is visible. (See example below.)
    2. Take a picture of the placement of the sensor tether head(s) on the machine being monitored. (See example below.)
    3. Take a wide picture of the placement of both the box and heads together. (See example below.)

After installing the sensors, email [email protected] with installation confirmation and attached pictures.
